The LVN program at the Texas Health School

The mission of the Vocational Nursing Program is to provide quality education for a diverse population of students who will contribute to the nursing profession by practicing competent, safe and responsible nursing care. The program emphasizes more on the direct training needed to model decision-making structures based on reasons for quality patient care, competency skills, self-evaluation and reflection in promoting professional development.

The Vocational Nursing Program will also respond to the needs of the Houston community by offering education for direct care to patients and families according to general health care needs in structural settings.

Vocational Nurses - Pass Rate: 2017 is 100% and 2018 is 93.5%. Next class starts on January 2, 2020

Medical Assistant Program

Class schedule for Medical Assistant classes offers Morning Classes from 8:00 to 1:50 every Monday to Friday, and Night Classes from 18:00 - 09.50 from Monday to Thursday.

The Medical Assistant Program is specifically designed to provide students with clinical and administrative skills to carry out front and back office procedures in medical offices, hospitals, emergency centers, medical spas, medical clinics.

Medical Assistant Programs Include:

  • Medical Law & Ethics - Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR certification)

Massage Therapy Program

The Massage Therapy Program is specifically designed for students to have the clinical and administrative skills needed to become a professional Massage Therapist. Students are encouraged to be able to obtain Massage Therapy which must be licensed as a massage therapist under the Texas Occupation Code, Chapter 455 *.

Their new Massage Therapy class begins on November 12, 2019. Students will learn massage with Swedish theory and techniques. Throughout the program, students will build the foundation of Swedish massage and learn various bodywork modalities.

The students are taught a detailed understanding of the human body that allows them to communicate with other health professionals and develop complete care programs for their clients.

Graduates of the program are prepared for work in private practice or positions with salons, chiropractors, medical doctors, spas, physical therapists, health centers and sports medicine.

This program exceeds the standards set by the Texas Licensing and Regulations Department for licensing as a Massage Therapist.

Class schedules are offered at Texas Health School from 9:00 a.m. to 1:50 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 6:00 p.m. to 9:50 p.m. Monday to Thursday.

Clinical and Energy-Based Massage: Students will study pain theory, types of pain, and use of massage techniques for pain management and physical rehabilitation. Students will learn massage techniques for pre / inter / post sport events as well as preventive and rehabilitative massage methods.

This course will provide students with an overview of Asian body therapies including shiatsu, Ayurveda, and Thai massage. Learn more at their official program page here.

Nurse Aide Program
The Nurse Aide program is designed to provide students with the skills and abilities that are essential for the provision of basic care for patients and residents of homes bound to hospitals and long-term care facilities.

Graduates of this program will be able to interact and communicate effectively with patients.

They will assist patients in achieving and maintaining maximum functional independence while observing patient rights.

They will learn how to take vital signs, apply basic nutrition in food planning, and follow infection control steps.

In addition, they will be able to apply appropriate bodily mechanisms in making beds, lifting and turning patients.

Certified Nurse Aides can work in nursing and care facilities at home and in hospitals.

Upcoming Nurse Aide classes begin
  • Day class on October 11, 2019 for 4 weeks.
  • Day class on October 11, 2019 for 4 weeks.
  • Evening classes on October 3, 2019 for 6 weeks.
  • Saturday classes started on October 5, 2019 for 12 weeks.

Students who have successfully completed the special requirements of Texas Health and Human Services, will receive a certificate for Nurse Aide and be eligible to register for Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation for certifications administered by the state of Texas.

Medication Aide Program
Their new Medication Aide Class begins on August 12, 2019. The Medical Assistance Program is specifically designed to prepare students and Helper Nurses in the field of drug administration under the supervision and guidance established by Texas Health and Human Services, Long Term Care Division, Licensed Drug Assistance Program.

Students will learn how to use these skills and procedures through classroom and clinical practice training.

Students will study the following topics
  • Introduction to the Concepts of Medication Assistance & Basics Students will learn the basic roles and responsibilities of assistants in the allied health field. They will study the history and reasons for drug use, drug administration, legislation and therapy, pharmacodynamics, competency skills, and use of generic drugs.
  • Basic Principles of Drug Administration. Students will learn comprehensively the basic principles of drug administration. They will learn about the supply and storage of medicines, drug orders and possible causes of medication errors and the roles and responsibilities of treatment aides in drug therapy. They will also learn about preparations, procedures, and treatment techniques for administering medicines and how to maintain medication records.

Drug Therapy for the Process of General Diseases
Students will learn the value of drugs for therapeutic purposes, and government regulations that must be followed in prescribing, issuing, and delivering drugs. They will learn about drugs that affect various body systems (cardiovascular, urinary, respiratory, gastro-intestinal, central nervous system, musculoskeletal, endocrine, and eye, ear, and skin). They will learn how to identify possible reactions to certain drugs, and recognize possible adverse reactions.

Drug Administration for Age-Related Patients
Students will learn special skills in administering medicine to patients suffering from age-related illnesses and disorders as well as younger children. Students will also learn about administering drugs to patients who have immune disorders.

Medication Planning and the Role of Medication Assistance
Students will study the goals of care planning, the importance of interdisciplinary care plans and the role of medication aides in relation to patient care planning.

Texas Health School was founded in 2002 in Houston TX to provide the specific training programs needed to address the increasing demand for skilled health care workers and professional workers.

The Texas Health School began classes in 2003 at 10565 Katy Freeway and moved to 11211 Katy Freeway during the summer of 2004. This location offers easy access from all areas of Houston and surrounding communities and is served by several metro bus routes.

Institutions, inhabited facilities including instructional classrooms and laboratories with relevant equipment in the workplace are specifically designed to provide an optimal learning environment for students. Student parking is available, and additional space is available for future school expansion.
