Baylor College of Medicine CRNA. Baylor College of Medicine's Doctor of Nursing Practice-Nurse Anesthesia is a special program to produce the next generation of professional anesthetic nurses who will be leaders in clinical practice, as well as health, education and policy research.
The program is designed in two tracks including the BSN-DNP track for RNs who wish to become CRNA and the MS-DNP track for CRNA prepared by masters who wish to obtain the DNP title.

BSN-DNP Track
Registered nurses registered in our program complete two phases. The 18-month didactic experience includes basic and clinical science, health care policy and delivery, translational research, leadership and management. Clinical practicum 18 months provides very diverse clinical training in the provision of general, regional and local anesthesia
After completing the degree requirements, graduates are entitled to take the National Certification Examination administered by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Anesthesia Nurses.
MS-DNP Track
We also offer advanced positions in the DNP program for Registered Registered Nurse anesthesiologists from masters who wish to obtain doctoral degrees. CRNA with advanced status completes the required courses in 24 months. Class schedules are designed to accommodate working professionals. Most courses are offered in an online format and you only need to come to campus three times. After completing the program, CRNA will receive a DNP degree.

Baylor College of Medicine Doctor of the Anesthesia Nurse Practice Program is accredited by the Accreditation Board of Nurses' Anesthesia Education Program, 222 S. Prospect Ave., Park Ridge, IL, 60068, (847) 655-1160. In May 2014, we were granted 10 years of further accreditation.

CRNA training
Are you worried that Baylor College of Medicine Houston will not give you the experience or special training you need to become a successful CRNA?
During the first 18 months of the program at Baylor College of Medicine Houston, you will be in the didactic phase, gaining a solid foundation in nurse anesthesiology. This phase is divided into 9 blocks in which one block is built on a foundation laid in the previous block. This repetition of information will give you a big advantage when you take the CRNA board at the end of the program and is one of the main reasons for Baylor's high board pass rate.
During blocks 3, 5 and 6, you will get firsthand experience in nurse anesthesia by using a high-loyalty human patient simulator. This simulator is programmed to mimic the physiology of almost all patients. This gives you the opportunity to develop your skills in a non-threatening environment before you are expected to treat real patients.
Has dedicated itself over the past 18 months to the clinical phase. Note that all of your clinical experience will be obtained at the nearest hospital. Many students walk, ride a bicycle or take a bus to the clinic (although you most likely want your car to work late at night).
Each clinical location is chosen to give you special experience in anesthesia. Through your rotation on each site, you will gain a variety of skills and experience.
In your 8 months at Ben Taub Hospital, you will gain experience in general anesthesia / trauma and midwifery techniques.
During your 4 months at DeBakey VA Medical Center, you will spend time studying general anesthesia and geriatrics.
For 4 months at the Houston Methodist Hospital, you will get exposure to general operating room anesthesia. At the Heart Center, you will also gain experience in anesthetic management of patients undergoing cardiac, thoracic, vascular (primary and peripheral), and transplant procedures.
In your 1 month at the Children's Hospital, you will be exposed to a variety of surgical procedures (inpatient and outpatient arrangements), and will also be expected to attend a series of morning lectures led by faculty anesthesiologists and nurse anesthesiologists.
Finally, at St. Episcopal Hospital Luke, you will get exposure to the practice of anesthesia in a private hospital.
CRNA Program Requirements
Required Bachelor Degree BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) from a fully accredited college or university in the United States.
RN:
All applicants must have a valid RN license and are not burdened with at least one of the 50 United States to apply. Once accepted, students must maintain an RN that is not burdened. licenses from Texas and / or other states participating in the Enhanced Nurse License Compact.
Critical Care
A minimum of one year (two years is preferred) from experience in intensive care.
ICU in any setting, for example: Cardiovascular ICU, ICU surgery, ICU Neuro, Medical ICU, Pediatric ICU (Level III), Neonatal ICU (Level III), Open Heart Recovery Unit.
They do NOT accept: Step Down or transition treatment area, Post-coronary care, Intermediate Care Unit, Progressive Care Unit, Nursing Unit / Post Anesthesia Unit, Surgery room, Emergency room.
GPA
Cumulative grade point average grade 3.0 or better (where A = 4.0)
GRE
Completion of Postgraduate Exam Exams (verbal, quantitative and analytic writing sections). GRE exams have to be taken in the past four years. Only the latest GRE scores will be considered. ALL applicants must take the GRE. There are no exceptions.
In order for applicants' GRE scores to be competitive, they recommend scores at or above the 50th percentile in all three parts of the exam (verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing). They will continue to receive the old GRE test score as long as the score is no more than four years within the application deadline.
Ordinary Student
Based on the latest entry class, the average student is 27 years old, has an average grade point average of 3.67 on a 4.0 scale, and a composite score on the 1155 Postgraduate Exam Examination (verbal + quantitative). All students are registered nurses (RNs) who are experienced in intensive care settings.
